Baked fries, however, can be a way of still enjoying french fries while sticking to your diet. Slice some potatoes into fries about 1/2″ wide, then put them in a bowl with a tablespoon of oil. Add salt and pepper (and optionally, rosemary), then put them in the oven and bake them at 400 degrees. Loosen with a spatula, turn, and bake another 10 min. or so. They are great with ketchup and have lower fat content, so you won’t miss the deep-fried ones. This recipe is taken from Laurel’s cookbook under the name “French Bakes”.
Never worry about leaving food on your plate when on a diet. A lot of children are taught to finish their plates, which is a good thing only if the plate contains a healthy portion. It’s okay to take leftovers home. It is not beneficial or necessary to force yourself to finish everything. When you feel like you are full, stop eating.
Cardio exercise is more helpful than weight training if you are using exercise exclusively to lose weight. Even though weight training is important for healthy muscle development, cardio exercise is what burns the fat off your body. Cardiovascular exercise is a great way to lose weight because in addition to raising your heart rate, it gets your blood pumping faster.
Have ice instead of junk food. Sucking on an ice cube can help satisfy a desire to eat.
Eat a larger number of low calorie meals throughout the day. Many small snack-meals are much better than a few large meals. This helps the body maintain a higher metabolism for the whole day.

Purchase a monitor for your heart for your gym sessions. Effective cardiovascular exercise is dependent upon a healthy heart rate. You can monitor your heart rate with this device so that to ensure its at optimum levels.
Make an effort to try to stop eating long before you go to bed. For example, if 10 is your bedtime, do not eat after 8. If you are feeling an urge to eat something, consume a handful of veggies that are very low in calories, or you could try drinking some water. It may not always be possible to follow this suggestion, but your best effort to follow this guideline is important. Your body will store calories and fat when it is not active.
Eating while you are distracted is likely to cause weight gain. When you are not focusing on what you are putting into your mouth, it is easy to overeat by accident. Pay attention whenever you are eating so that you can keep track of exactly how many calories you are taking in.

Include more vegetables and fruits in your diet in order to lose weight. It’s important to keep your plate as colorful as possible. Including many different color fruits and vegetables will keep you healthy, and help you to lose weight.
